Sights in the Cultural Region of the Rheingau
The cultural region of the Rheingau is worth seeing and experiencing!
Numerous cultural historical sights within easy reach are located in a relatively confined area.
Castles, monuments, churches, monasteries, architectural buildings and further cultural sights offer great opportunities for sightseeing and exploring the region.
Visit e.g. Johannisberg Palace (“Schloss Johannisberg”), the oldest Riesling winery in the world and place of discovery of the Spätlese (“late harvest”), the Castle of the Sovereigns Elect in Eltville/Rhine “Kurfürstliche Burg Eltville am Rhein”) with the Gutenberg Monument inside the castle’s tower or Eberbach Monastery where many scenes of the film "The Name of the Rose" were filmed.
Vollrads Palace (“Schloss Vollrads”) or Biebrich Palace (“Biebricher Schloss”) also offer great opportunities for visitors who can explore the palaces’ beautiful gardens and parks.
The Niederwald Monument in Rüdesheim/Rhine with its beautiful view overlooking the Rhine and Nahe Valleys attracts many tourists. The church of St Valentine in Kiedrich was declared a Basilica Minor and features the oldest working organ of Germany. The Parish Church of St Martin in Lorch has an altar made of carved wood well worth seeing, and visitors can admire the frescos by Enderle in the baroque parish church of St Peter & Paul in Hochheim.
